The trucking industry is the number one area that has extremely BAD ETHICS IN THE WORKPLACE! There are many of the larger companies out there that are guilty of bad ethics in the workplace. Having been a trucker myself... I am only going to list the ones that I have previous experience with. Therefore... what I have to say is true. Many truckers will agree with me on this matter. I must first say that the Independant Trucker is very blessed to still be in business for themselves. That is the way to go when it comes to being a Trucker. Bad ethics in the workplace rolls down hill beginning with Fleet Managers all the way down the chain of command. They force their drivers to find extra hour s in their logs to push their companies freight. Frozen Food Express {FFE} did that to me in my first year of driving. Even small outfits that hire drivers as independant contractors have bad ethics in the workplace. Marvin Houdek of Houdek Transport in Mesquite Texas did one driver wrong. It was the drivers weekend to be with his child, they had him pick up a load to California after just getting in from a long road trip. The driver did them a favor by doing so, then dropping that load at their yard in Lancaster Texas. Talk about bad ethics in the workplace... the driver went home thinking that they would have another driver pick up the load and run with it. Wrong... they told the driver to clean out his truck, then charged him $300.00 to pay the other driver to take that load. Here's another situation of bad ethics in the workplace... A. Passmore & Son's Trucking recently sold their business to a wealthy buyer of businesses. Why? Because Jim Passmore was trying to grow too fast. The company's web site is an absolute lie when it comes to the drivers that they hire and their experience. Their policy used to indicate that they only hired drivers that had at least two years of flatbed experience. They were hiring drivers fresh out of trucking school. A recent source of mine can verify this story.... he states that he and many other drivers would go home for the weekends as allowed and expected. Their company handbook on policies and procedures did not indicate what happened to him. He was told to clean out his truck after going home to see his child. This is a serious case of BAD ETHICS IN THE WORKPLACE with A. PASSMORE & SON'S trucking. This driver was assigned a load with a winter storm blowing in. It was on a Friday morning as he sat in Denver all day long waiting for a load to Dallas to be home with his child. Snow blowing in. He had to call other people to get a load because his dispatcher ignored him. He got one. He went and got the load, strapped and tarped it in eight below degrees weather. He went home. He got home Saturday afternoon. He was one day late picking up his child. On Sunday... the day he was due to take his boy home... he was called by A. PASSMORE & SONS. They were very angry with him for going home to see his kid. They told him to clean out his truck. To make BAD ETHICS IN THE WORKPLACE even worse. The company actually reported to his DAC record that the driver had quit. Preventing him from collecting unemployment. They also tell any other companies that he applies to that they would never rehire him. Thus preventing him from getting a job to help feed and cloth his child. I can now undertand why there are so many truckers that are on our roadways that drive for these major companies driving like maniacs. They too see the ethics in the workplace in which they find themselves being ridiculous and awful. They are force to drive long and tiring hours... keeping two or more log books at the risk of being caught be D.O.T. officers. There is a Bill being presented to Congress asking for a new law to be enacted enforcing all comercial trucks to be governed at 68 miles per hour. This Bill needs to pass. This may help the current Truckers on the roads today from being victimized by the extreme Bad Ethics In The Workplace. There is a downside to that bill. I have heard of many owner operators claims that if they are forced to govern their trucks down to 68 miles per hour, that they will sell their trucks and retire. Our country does not need for this to happen. Ethics in the workplace begins with CEO's and their policies... and their fleet managers. Based on my report... I'd have to say that A. Passmore & Son's would be one of the 1st companies that should be scrutinized about how they treat their drivers. Ethics in the workplace pertaining to their driver in this story... at least he donated from his check each week to help his comrades and their families in need. I am about to do something for a good trucker friend of mine. He is the key source in this article. Kevin Newman of A. Passmore & Son's needs to be replaced. He creates bad ethics in the workplace. Kevin Newman will damage your career as a trucker. Jim Passmore is in the middle of a divorce. He is known to be a "Playboy" type character. He does not pay attention to his company... thus being why he was forced to sell. Jim Passmore has no clue how to run a trucking business. His father needs to buy it all back if he wants to keep the Passmore name from becoming a complete and utter joke. Going for a record here... Passmore Trucking will continue to be a joke with Kevin Newman as Fleet Manager. Kevin Newman is the very reason why Passmore Trucking has bad ethics in the workplace. Kevin Newman is bad ethics in the workplace. Kevin Newman is Bad Ethics In The Workplace for A. Passmore & Son's Trucking!
